International health care development and management with a focus on hospital care. 25 years of experience in hospital management up to executive board level in a large teaching hospital.

Implemented EPIC enterprise EMR system and prepared hospital for international quality accreditation (JCI).

Based on combined medical and business background strongly focused on creating patient oriented and process driven organizations based on clinical outcome and cost effectiveness.

Broad knowledge of and experience in the Dutch Health care system that is consistently ranked among the top performing health care systems worldwide regarding patient outcome and value for money.

In the past 5 years held responsibility at executive level for a broad range of medical departments and non-medical departments such as the IT department and the department of quality and patient safety.

Broad experience with the development and management of clinical pathways. In 2013 won the Dutch national care pathway award for a standardized clinical pathway on diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer.

Set up network organizations such as regional cooperatives to facilitate patient data exchange among competing hospitals and first line practices, the Dutch Epic User Group, a joint multi hospital quality improvement initiative and an 8 hospital Comprehensive Cancer Network.

Amphia Hospital, Breda, The Netherlands

Executive Board Member, 3/10 to 12/15

  • One of 5 executive directors of the second largest teaching hospital in The Netherlands with 840 beds, 260 medical consultants, and a budget of € 420 million.
  • Held responsibility on the medical side for the departments of general surgery, oncology, internal medicine, pulmonology, pathology and pharmacy.
  • Held responsibility for the supporting departments of IT, EMR, Business Intelligence, Medical Technology and Quality & Patient Safety.
  • Implemented the enterprise version of the EMR of EPIC hospital wide at three hospital sites to reach HIMSS EMRAM stage 6.
  • Obtained accreditation for the hospital according to the Dutch NIAZ system and prepared the hospital for JCI quality accreditation.
  • Started a regional 8 hospital Comprehensive Cancer Network.
  • Initiated setting up of the Dutch EPIC user group and chaired the board of executive representatives from the participating hospitals.
  • Participated in and chaired regional IT network cooperative’s.
  • Developed and implemented a hospital wide quality surveillance system.

Kathmandu University Hospital Dhulikhel, Nepal

Health Care Development Consultant, 11/15 to present

  • With AMPC International Health Consultants developing a fundable proposal for upgrading and further developing Kathmandu University Hospital in Dhulikhel on the eastern rim of the Kathmandu valley.
  • Focusing on finalizing the construction of the new Mother and Child center and rationalizing and standardizing its organization to form a model for the hospital organization as a whole.
  • Upgrading and integrating the functioning of the first line outreach centers
  • Strengthening the academic research component of the hospital.
  • Developing a hospital quality assurance system
